After countless consultations and wedding makeup trials, I know that achieving radiant, glowing skin on your wedding day is a common bridal goal. However, with AI-generated imagery creating unrealistic exceptions, we need to step back, ground ourselves in reality, and take a good look in the mirror. You are beautiful just as you are, and the person waiting for you at the end of the aisle believes you are perfect.

That said, I completely understand your desire to feel radiant. Fine lines, wrinkles, texture, visible pores, and scars are totally normal and difficult to change. But we can change our skin’s health, and that’s where your radiant glow will come from.

How to Achieve Radiant Skin on Your Wedding Day

1. Speak to a Specialist

I’m a skincare enthusiast, not an expert! If you have specific concerns like acne, rosacea or pigmentation, I’d recommend consulting a dermatologist for personalised treatment options. If you have problem skin that’s not medical, you can visit an aesthetician or an experienced beauty therapist for advice.

2. Nail Your Skincare Routine

If you’re a skincare beginner, a simple 3-step routine – cleanse, tone and moisturise – is a good place to start.

Cleanse – Morning and evening, use gentle products suitable for your skin type to remove makeup and impurities. In the evening, I like to use an oil cleanser with a balm-like texture followed by a water-based cleanser. Makeup wipes are an absolute no-no!

Tone – I love a hydrating toner. After cleansing, spritz your skin and lock the hydration in with a serum and/or moisturiser.

Moisturise – Apply a hydrating moisturiser daily to keep your skin supple.

3. Never Skip SPF

SPF is non-negotiable. You should wear SPF 30 or above every day to prevent sun damage and premature aging. Yes, I said EVERY DAY! If you’re getting married during the summer, you need to be even more diligent to avoid getting sunburnt. Watch out for tan lines or strap marks too. I say bring back the boob tube!

4. Treat Yourself to a HydraFacial

Without a doubt, if you treat yourself to one thing before your wedding, it has to be a HydraFacial. It exfoliates to remove dead skin cells, vacuums out your pores to banish blackheads and impurities, then infuses your skin with antioxidants and other good stuff. It leaves your complexion looking and feeling so good, creating the perfect base for your wedding makeup.

Just make sure you speak to your beauty therapist about the best time to have your facial before the wedding as it may depend on your skin type. Read The Best Pre-Wedding Treatments for Brides to learn more.

5. Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Your makeup brushes harbour bacteria, dirt and oil which can lead to clogges pores, acne breakouts, irritation and infections like conjunctivitis. If you use them every day (or fairly often), you should be cleaning your brushes weekly. Not sure where to start? Check out Isoclean. It’s super quick and easy to use.

6. Hydrate

You know how supermodels and celebrities always attribute a glowing complexion to drinking water? Unfortunately, even with Facetune and Photoshop on board, they’re telling the truth. Staying hydrated is key if you want to achieve radiant skin. Aim to drink at least 2 litres of water per day, especially the week before your wedding.

7. Nourish Yourself

You do you, but you’ll never hear me encouraging anyone to make themselves smaller for their wedding day. The only ‘diet’ I’m interested in is one that nourishes you from the inside out. Your skin loves fatty fish, avocados, nuts and seeds, leafy greens, and brightly coloured vegetables like sweet potatoes, carrots and bell peppers. Avoid foods you know will you break out, and if you do break out, don’t pick it!

8. Prioritise Sleep

Sleep plays an essential role in your skin’s health and appearance. While you’re snoring away, your body enters repair mode, increasing blood flow to the skin and boosting collagen production for cell regeneration and repair. You want 7-8 hours a night, minimum.

It’s not unusual to have trouble sleeping the night before your wedding, so try to get as much shuteye as possible during the week leading up to your big day.

9. Don’t Forget Your Arms, Shoulders and Décolletage

Make body scrubs your best friend! Focus on your arms, elbows, shoulders and décolletage. If your wedding dress is short, include your knees and legs too. Then, lather your damp skin in a good body butter. Repeat every few days in the run up to your wedding.
